Julie is a young and troubled teen who is dreading the summer on a Canadian island with her relatives. But as soon as she arrives, she runs into Stan, who lives nearby. He shares his favorite places on the island and might even become a friend. And there’s a wonderful dog she can talk to. The reporter who arrives to interview her uncle is a bit pushy, but that’s interesting, and so is the mysterious old woodcarver who lives deep in the forest. Her hopes for happiness begin to rise. But everything falls apart when stolen artifacts and her spiteful cousin threaten disaster. She can’t help wondering: does God care?
