Free: Letters From Captivity – The Israeli Pilot and his Wife

Letters From Captivity : The Israeli Pilot and his Wife

On June 30, 1970, seconds after a missile hit his plane, Israeli pilot Rami Harpaz found himself hovering between heaven and earth. The earth below, however, happened to be Egypt.

In the twinkling of an eye, Harpaz went from being the highly-skilled pilot of a Phantom Jet – then the spearhead of the Israeli air force – to a prisoner in an Egyptian prison where he was to be held captive for the next three and a half years.

A few hours after his plane had gone down, Harpaz’ wife, Nurit, and his children received the bitter news. Nurit had just entered the final months of her latest pregnancy, a pregnancy that unexpectedly culminated in the birth of twin girls.

Throughout the years of his captivity – on both sides of the Sinai Desert – Rami and Nurit went through many upheavals, happy moments vying with dispiriting disasters, hope mingling with despair. The story of their lives during that time – together and separately – could easily form the basis of a nail-biting television drama.

‘Letters from Captivity’ has been written in the form of an epistolary novel, blending together the moving, authentic correspondence that passed between Nurit and Rami. These are the very real letters that reveal the physical and mental struggles this rare couple had to overcome. They provide deep and meaningful insights into the crises and obstacles life puts in our way, and how we might face and overcome them.

‘Letters from Captivity’ is a real story, told by those who lived it, but which has been written in the most captivating prose. It is a fascinating, breathtaking, epistolary novel which does not allow the reader a single moment’s respite. Free on Kindle.

ADA IN LONDON – SURVIVING THE TRAUMAS

Ada in London, Surviving the Traumas is the story of a Nigerian Headteacher who is persuaded against her will by her husband, to relocate to the United Kingdom, in order to work and save her family from financial ruin. This is after he, Fred, had gone abroad and lost a huge sum of borrowed money, under suspicious circumstances. Fred, instead of taking the plunge himself, of relocating to a foreign country, to put right the mess he has made, he insists that Ada should abandon her family and go abroad.

Ada refuses over and over again, but her husband uses all bullying tactics to make her believe that, if her family got into financial ruin, it would be Ada’s fault and it would be simply because she is very selfish and doesn’t care enough about her family’s welfare…

Ada succumbs to all the pressure from her husband and her children and travels to London with very little money in her pocket ..

All through her first few years in London, Ada suffers from all sorts of problems:
– acute cold
– racism
– degradation
– acute loneliness
– lack of money
– total lack of love and support from her husband
– several heart-rending bereavements
and so on and so forth.

If you are wondering how Ada manages to survive the traumas, just get a copy of the novel and read her story for yourself.

Here’s one review from Outskirts’ Press who first published the book in 2005.

“A lot of burning and topical issues are covered by Gracy Ukala in Ada in London. Such issues include a woman’s ability to survive nobly without succumbing to “selling her body”, or compromising her
human dignity. She touches on other issues such as “faith in God” and “faith in oneself”. Ms Ukala’s most poignant and passionate theme remains the need for equality of the sexes to some extent, especially, in relationships or marriages. She believes fiercely that every woman has a right to choose what makes her happy, instead of being forced to remain in a relationship because that is what society expects of her, or because that would make her man happy!”

There are many more issues that Ada has to tackle in order to be true to herself and to her God. Ada’s survival is mainly due to her own determination to succeed. Ada’s hard work, her leadership skills and her absolute faith in God, all combine to see her through her dark moments of suffering.

Here’s another review:
“Ada in London is full of suspense. It is fast-moving, simple, and very easy to read. Any one from the age of 18 onward, would enjoy the story thoroughly, as the issues tackled in this book are about mature life situations. This is a very well-written book by an award-winning novelist. I promise you, once you pick it up, you won’t want to put it down until you finish reading it!

I heartily recommend Ada in London-Surviving the Traumas, to you. Happy reading!”

The Savage Path: A Memoir of Modern Masculinity

Do you believe society needs genuine, healthy masculinity? Masculinity, in any form, has been viciously attacked for decades with serious unintended consequences. We need boys to grow into responsible, productive men and fathers. We need their strength to face down evil, and they need a guide to help them navigate this new wilderness, to find and define their masculinity in the gender-confused world of today. This memoir is filled with modern male friendships, advice, career tips for Christian men, and stories about Savage’s own experiences on a quest for answers. Savage hopes this will not only be able to help inform individuals, but that this work of God’s will writing for men will be a group ministry discussion- starter for adult Christian men.

In The Savage Path, David Savage uses humility and humor to highlight the hard-won wisdom gleaned along his path— – successes, failures, friendships, and family. Much of what he shares comes from real wilderness adventures. This is a quest memoir about Christian men and how they can live a physically, mentally, and morally healthy life in modern society.

Another Fuggin’ War Story

Another Fuggin' War Story
This story is written by a lifelong pothead. Me. Most of it is probably true, if not a little exaggerated. So, if there’s any question on the veracity of my tale, I’ll refer to you elsewhere because only those who were there know the truth. What I can tell you is how overwhelming it is to have someone’s life in my hands while secretly wondering what the hell to do next. But here I am, everyone looking for me to save them. No matter, I’ll keep my guys alive if it’s the last thing I do. Then, when it’s over, I’ll undoubtedly find some trouble to get into because life’s too short not to have a little fun. The waiting joint is my reward, promising great ideas to keep me busy. If only they didn’t backfire so spectacularly – like the time I took on the rat infestation with C4 and an ammo can, when I caused myself to be whipped by a 100-foot tree, or the time I blew up half of the encampment. Now all I have to do is stay out of my C.O.’s line of sight, which is not as easy a task as you might think.

“This is not a traditional war story, but instead a journey of a young man coming of age in a war-torn country. From the moments of crisis where he shows his true grit to save a life, to the trouble he gets into daily, you won’t be bored. And it’s all true.” – P. B. Lee, Spec. 4 $2.99 on Kindle.

The email sparks memories of her “previous life” – the one she has kept safely bottled up for more than 37 years. Hopeful of helping to raise awareness about ongoing human rights violations in Brazil, she wants to testify, but she anguishes over reliving the horrific events of her youth.

Karen Keilt lived through the darkest days of Brazil’s military dictatorship. In her courageous and compelling memoir, Keilt narrates an emotionally honest reckoning of her desire to find true happiness. Wheels of Injustice: Saving My Child from the Child Savers

Six weeks into a blissful honeymoon, life turns into a nightmare when Susan’s 9-year-old daughter is taken away and her husband is falsely accused of child sexual abuse. Dragged under the churning wheels of the child protection system, Susan is given a choice: cooperate in prosecuting her innocent husband or lose her daughter. When the couple doesn’t give in to pressure, Susan loses custody of her daughter, and her husband is charged with a felony that carries a 16-year prison sentence. No one wants to hear the facts. No one wants to know the truth. It’s the 1980s—a decade of unfounded abuse accusations, hysterical claims of orgies at daycare centers, families controlled by courts, and a child protection system that has become the very thing it was created to eradicate. Wheels of Injustice is a curtains-pulled-back true account of the out-of-control child protection system of the 1980s and the victims who risked everything to expose its egregiously unjust acts and reform it. The book is a tribute to God’s faithfulness and a message of hope to others who have struggled to overcome adversity, fight injustice, or turn an upended life the right way around again. $0.99 on Kindle.
