Being Authentic: A Memoir
Desire to find your Authentic Voice? Learn the process to participate more authentically in the project we call humanity•••

Rare are the spaces in which we can look inwardly at who we are. There is no horizon to do so more intimately than reading one’s biography. Reflect on what and who you are. What constitutes your core self? What should that be?

While there is no such thing as an “Authenticity Expert,” you now have a viable alternative. Morhaf Al Achkar obtained his Ph.D in education and is currently a practicing family physician at the University of Washington. He was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. Since then, his research has focused on the experiences of patients living with cancer. His first book is based on interviews he did with 39 patients who live, like him, with advanced illness. He explored how these patients find meaning, cope, and build resilience. Using his own experiences and deep knowledge of philosophical concepts, Morhaf shares his understanding of authenticity from the perspective of someone aware of his own finitude.

By following along with his fascinating life story, Morhaf invites you on a journey of dialogue and reflection to live a more authentic and purposeful life with integrity.

By engaging with the author’s story in Being Authentic™, you will:

Garner the bravery to look at your own and be more authentic
Strive to connect with the poet, artist, writer, dancer, and actor in You
Learn how to heal, forgive, and let go of resentment to live a more positive life
Develop better-coping skills and become more resilient in the face of pandemic-like events
And much, much more!

Being Authentic: A Memoir™ is the second book in Dr. Alachkar’s self-help series. The first was on resilience and meaning. Free on Kindle.

Collateral Intentions

Collateral Intentions

“Collateral Intentions is a veritable gift of living poiesis for the soul…a divinely inspired offering of transparent truth and personal revelation born from a life-transforming encounter with all too often denied, and at times necessarily despised parts of oneself.”

“Without fail, the compelling images, thoughts, and feelings, expressed through the self explorations of a young person straddling the thresholds of adolescence to adulthood have provided potent learnings into understanding what’s most important – how to be wholehearted and genuinely human.”

“…it peels back layers and defenses in one’s own psyche and relays the message of vulnerability that is universally common in being human and necessary in the journey of self-love.”

Most of us tend to avoid the darkness within, but what happens when we turn to embrace it? Join Constantine Dhonau as he artfully examines that which we prefer to ignore.

Collateral Intentions is a contemplative memoir expressed through 11 years of Constantine Dhonau’s journal entries, poems, short stories, and letters from ages 17 to 28. He explores the power of our decisions and the dangers of disowning our pain. His writing spans the gamut of self-reflection, opens the door to our private worlds, and inspires us to extend an olive branch to our darkest self by exposing parts of his life which most keep under lock-and-key. $4.99 on Kindle.

Wide Open

Wide Open

Wide Open is D. M. Ditson’s dizzying account of unravelling in the wake of a series of sexual assaults that left her with post-traumatic stress disorder. When her past threatens to derail a promising new relationship, Ditson flings herself into her recovery and documents her healing in near real-time. Written in the depths of her illness, Ditson shows what PTSD looks like from the inside as she loses herself in time – mistaking the past for the present, the innocuous for danger, and her beloved for a villain. With startling candour, Ditson probes her past to understand how she became so vulnerable to assault, navigates through her trauma, and recounts her excruciating recovery as her body thrashes beyond her control.

Transforming from someone who once burned and buried every one of her secrets, Ditson shares all to offer hope, to prove that healing is possible and to show that love is bigger. Wide Open is the recovery memoir Ditson sought and couldn’t find when she felt crazy and alone, and yearned for someone who had made it out the other end to reach back into the darkness and share the path to freedom. It’s the story of one woman’s hard-fought liberation, and countless others have found solace in Ditson’s words.

“This incredibly brave and powerful memoir is written in prose both luminous and stark. I read it in one gulp, in awe of the author’s willingness to surrender to her experience of trauma and of her generosity in sharing her journey with readers. Wide Open will take you to the farthest reaches of what it means to be human.” – Alison Pick, Man Booker-nominated author of Far To Go and Strangers With The Same Dream $0.99 on Kindle.

Man & Horse: The Long Ride Across America

Man & Horse: The Long Ride Across America

Let Burn: The Making and Breaking of a Firefighter/Paramedic

Let Burn: The Making and Breaking of a Firefighter/Paramedic

WINNER OF THE 2014 FLORIDA AUTHORS AND PUBLISHERS ASSOCIATION SILVER MEDAL PRESIDENT’S AWARD IN MEMOIRS

In 1985, desiring a meaningful, high-paced career in public service, Rachel Wentz left her university studies to become a firefighter/paramedic. Only the eighth woman hired by the Orlando Fire Department, a highly competitive department steeped in tradition, Wentz excelled, completing an AS in Fire Science, a master’s in public administration, and numerous specialized training courses to prepare her for an administrative position within the department.

Wentz spent eleven years with OFD, experiencing a career that was every bit as exciting and challenging as she had sought. A moving, candid, and eloquent memoir, Let Burn recounts her experiences as a firefighter/paramedic, during which time she witnessed aspects of life and death few people are privy to, experiences that shaped her as a professional and as a person. From the rigorous demands of training to the extraordinary calls Wentz responded to, Let Burn details the gratifying aspects of the field, but also demonstrates the precarious nature of the job: a heated altercation at the scene of an industrial fire leads to Wentz losing almost everything she’s worked for and the dramatic end of a storied career.

In vivid detail, Let Burn provides a firsthand glimpse into the hidden world of firefighting and emergency medicine. $9.99 on Kindle.
